In my fourth year of studying Occupational Therapy (OT) at university a lecturer sat us all down and asked us to explain what OT is. There was silence throughout the lecture hall. We had been studying this for four years and had just returned from 1000 hours of clinical experience and we still couldn’t explain it!
That was 8 years ago and I am proud to say I can now explain my profession!
Occupational Therapists enable people to do all the things they need or want to do in a day.
This can be in the field of mental health, learning, sexual function, mobility aides, workplaces, mining, hospitals or hand therapy, to name a few! Basically if there is an area of life that you could enhance your performance, or that you can no longer complete as you would like to there will be an OT who specialises in that area and can help you! Pretty cool huh?
